What are some natural fertility drugs for men?

August 17, 2009 - 5:47 pm 3 Comments

I have been checked out by the doctor and am OK to go - my partner needs a hand - what sort of prenatal vitamins should he take to increase sperm count and general sperm health?

I am not sure what kinds of medicine can boost a mans sperm count however.. if he smokes (weed or cigarettes) have him stop.. they both lower sperm count. Also drinking too much. Have him take a multi-vitamin too. The zinc and vitamin C help. Also I’m sure you’ve heard it before but if you are TTC, have sex every other day instead of everyday.

What herbs are there to help with fertility?

August 17, 2009 - 5:46 pm 6 Comments

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost two years now and it seems like our attempts are not getting us anywhere. I have heard that there are herbs that I can take that will help with fertility. I am very irregular with my periods. I have not gone to the doctor yet because I am in between insurance companies so we cannot afford the doctors visit. I wanted to try this method first. If anypne has ANY advice I would greatly appreciate it. I am despirate!!!

Do you know for sure that it is you that has the issue with fertility? The reason I ask is that men are easier to check for fertility problems. The process for testing women is very stressful, drawn out and, in effect, expensive. If it happens to be your husband, then you would have saved time and money and you would know sooner which direction to go for natural treatment (him or you). If he is willing, I would ask that he gets tested first.

Meanwhile, there are things that you can do naturally to help your body in this area. Here are some suggestions:
**This quote is from The How To Herb Book p. 176
"Some women have problems conceiving because their bodies are either TOO ACID or TOO ALKALINE. This causes their bodies to kill sperm. It is possible to be tested for this. A Baking Soda/Honey douche can be used to correct over-acid problems and a Vinegar douche can be used for over-alkaline problems. These douches must be used just prior to intercourse in order to be effective."
*Basic Vinegar Douche- 1 to 2 Tablespoons white or apple cider vinegar to 1 quart water.
*Baking Soda/Honey Douche- 2 teaspoons Baking Soda, 1 teaspoon Honey to 1 quart water.
**p. 162 - Eating more alkaline-ash foods helps the body to heal and regain its balanced chemistry.
Alkali Forming Foods-vegetables, fruits, greendrinks, juices, broths, soups, cottage cheese, buttermilk
Acid Forming Foods-most grains (except millet), buckwheat, meats, eggs, nuts (except almonds), lentils
Seeds and grains become more alkaline when sprouted.
Neutral or near Neutral- butter, milk, cream, honey, dried legumes
(If you test too Acid, eat more Alkali Forming Foods. If you test too Alkaline, eat more Acid Forming Foods)

Vitamin E, Selenium, Manganese
**p. 116 says that Vitamin E increases fertility. Taking Selenium with Vitamin E helps increases the power of Vitamin E. Manganese needs to be present in the body for Vitamin E to be effective (p. 115). You can get these supplements at Walmart and other drug stores.

**There are some suggestions in this book for men and infertility problems in case his tests prove him to be contributing to the lack of progress (there’s just not a good way to put this statement). The book mentions zinc and selenium being important for males in the reproductive department.

The Significance of Zinc Supplements

July 18, 2009 - 3:33 pm No Comments

Zinc is an essential part of our diet and is required by virtually every cell in our body to help maintain our health. However, our body can not naturally make zinc, so we have to get our required amounts from drinking water and consuming specific foods. The body requires zinc for a number of reasons including helping the immune system, supporting our joints and tissue and provides an essential role in supporting the development of your cells. Most people are doubtful to have a zinc deficiency, but because of their dietary choices, vegans can be at more risk as they stay away from meat and dairy foodstuffs which are naturally rich in zinc. Zinc supplements can be especially helpful to not only vegans, but any person who may have a low zinc intake. Studies show that not only are our senses such as sight, smell and taste kept in fine working order if we have a good level of zinc in our diet, but also our hair benefits and skin wounds and conditions such as acne tend to heal sooner. It has also been revealed that zinc plays a role in our fertility and a link has been drawn concerning the low sperm count in men and low levels of zinc. The numbers of men that are regarded to be sub fertile is on the rise and factors such as smoking, drinking, drugs and stress are all said to play a part in this condition. In these circumstances, a high dose intake can benefit men greatly. Women can also use a zinc supplement when conceiving as it affects their hormone levels. It is essential to be aware that like with any supplement you can overdose on zinc and if you do so on a regular basis, you have a greater risk of actually damaging your immune system. Older people are more prone to having a zinc deficiency and if you are doubtful of your zinc levels, it is prudent get advice from your local doctor or GP to make sure that a supplement will in fact be beneficial to you.
